Home Tab
The home screen shows your progress ring, a countdown of hours remaining, your car (set in Settings → Your Car), action buttons to start or add a drive, and a Tip of the Day — a different driving tip every day.
Getting Started
1. Set your state — go to Settings and pick your state. The app will show the correct total and night-hour requirements.
2. Enter your name — shown in Settings and on your printed log.
3. Set a goal date — optional target date for your road test. The app will show how many hours per week you need.
Logging Drives
🚗 Start Drive — tap on the Home tab. ReadyToRoll records your GPS route, weather, and time automatically. Allow location access for the best results — it's optional but enables route maps and weather.
⚡ Quick Add — fastest way to log a drive you just completed. Pick a duration chip, choose Day or Night, add optional tags, and save in seconds.
📝 Manual — enter a past drive by date, start/end time, and conditions. Use this for drives you forgot to log, or when GPS isn't available.
Tags — tap tag chips (Highway, Rain, Parking…) before saving to categorise each drive.
Day vs Night — detected automatically. You can override it in Quick Add or Manual entry.
📍 Location blocked — if you see a yellow Location banner, open your browser settings → Site permissions → Location and allow this site. Routes and weather require GPS access.
Idle detection — if the app detects no movement for 5 minutes while a drive is active, you'll get a warning. At 10 minutes it automatically stops the drive so you don't accidentally log parked time.
Progress Tab
The ring shows your overall % complete. The bars below break out day, night, and (for PA and SD) inclement hours separately.
🌧️ Inclement hours — some states require supervised driving in rain, snow, fog, or thunderstorms. ReadyToRoll detects inclement conditions automatically from live weather data, or you can tag a drive manually with Rain or Snow. Pennsylvania requires 5h; South Dakota requires 10h.
Goal Date — set a target test date in Settings. ReadyToRoll will show how many hours per week you need to stay on track.
Milestones — 17 badges unlock automatically: progress thresholds, session counts, miles, streaks, and driving conditions (Rain Dancer 🌧️, Night Owl 🦉, Early Bird 🌅, Highway Star 🛣️, and more). Confetti fires when a new one is earned.
Weekly Chart — shows the last 8 weeks of activity, split by day (amber) and night (purple).
Skills Checklist
26 skills across 6 categories mirror a standard DMV road test. Tap a skill name to expand tips. Mark skills Learning or Mastered — tap the active button again to deselect it.
The number badge on the Skills tab shows how many skills haven't been started yet.
History
All drives listed by month. Use the filter chips to show only day or night drives. Search by location, supervisor, or tag. Tap any drive to see the full detail, route map, and notes.
Edit — tap a drive → Edit to correct time, conditions, or supervisor.
Delete — tap a drive → Delete. A 5-second Undo option appears in the notification bar.
Settings
State — changes the hour requirement. Tap 📖 Driver's Handbook to open your state's official manual. Override totals if your situation differs.
Vibe Theme — Classic, Pastel 🌸, Neon ⚡, Retro ☀️, Midnight 🌙, Dark 🌑, or Hi-Contrast ◑. Changes the whole color palette. Dark and Hi-Contrast are great for night driving.
Accent Color — drag the hue slider to choose any color.
Text Size — Small / Medium / Large.
Your Car — pick a car icon, color, and nickname. It shows on the Home screen and on the map during a live drive.
Cloud Sync & Parent View
☁️ Cloud Sync — in Settings → Cloud Sync, tap Create Sync Code to get an 8-character code. Your drives are automatically backed up to the cloud after every change.
Second device — tap Join existing and enter your code to sync across devices.
📤 Parent View Link — once you have a sync code, tap Share Parent View Link. This copies a URL your parent can open to see your live progress, recent drives, and milestones — without being able to edit anything.
Data & Export
Export JSON — full backup of all drives and settings. Use Import JSON to restore.
Export CSV — open in Excel or Google Sheets for custom reporting.
Print Log — generates a formatted log with session table, supervisor column, skills checklist, and signature lines — ready to hand to a DMV officer.
Tip: export a JSON backup before clearing data or switching devices.
Phone Lock & Background
ReadyToRoll keeps your screen awake during a drive (wake lock). If you manually lock the phone the GPS route will pause — the total drive time will still be accurate because it's calculated from start/stop timestamps, not a timer. Distance and route map will have gaps. For a complete route, keep the screen on and the app in the foreground.
